For the second week in a row Georgia played a team that had no business being on the same field as them. Thankfully they handled their business in convincing fashion once again this week as they took down Western Kentucky 70-20.
Just like last week fans should pump the brakes before getting too excited about anything Georgia did against a team like Western n, but there were still five things that stood out from this matchup.
1. Gunner Stockton continues to do what is expected of him
So far this season Gunner Stockton has done everything that's been asked of him. It's difficult to get too high on him at this point in the year since Georgia has played two significantly worse teams than them, but he once again deserves credit for handling his business exactly how he is supposed to.
Stockton finished the game completing 13 of 16 passes for 234 yards and five touchdowns. He did all of this by the halfway point of the second quarter and at that point he rode the bench for the rest of the game to stay healthy.
It will be interesting to see how he does against a Power Four team next week in Arkansas, but so far he has passed the first two tests of the season with flying colors.
2. Georgia offense put the ball on the ground far too much
Georgia scored 56 points on offense which is impressive even against Western Kentucky, but they put the ball on the ground far too often. In total Georgia fumbled the ball five times as a team with two of them being recovered by Western Kentucky.
That is far too many fumbles against any team let alone one they are much better than. Who knows how many times a team more on Georgia's level could force UGA to fumble, but ball security is something they need to focus on this next.
3. True freshman Tryiq Green made plays all over the field
It isn't often that a defensive player scores two touchdowns in the same game, but true freshman Tyriq Green pulled that off on Saturday.
He began his big day by recovering a fumble in the end zone from a fellow teammate who put the ball on the ground after an interception. Green barely recovered the ball before flying out of the end zone as he demonstrated the hustle Kirby Smart is looking for.
A few moments later he returned a kickoff 91-yards for a touchdown as well.
Green may not get a lot of playing time now that SEC play is beginning, but he is showing a lot of potential early in his career that should excite Georgia.
4. Ryan Puglisi may have just won the backup QB job
Quarterback Ryan Puglisi hasn't been as convincing so far this year as Georgia probably would've liked him to be. After being the backup QB all last season he was yet to fully secure the same job again this year, but on Saturday he may have ended that debate.
Puglisi only completed two of his five passes, but he did pop off a 70-yard touchdown run out of nowhere. Georgia fans probably had no clue he was capable of that, so that was nice to see from the potential starting quarterback for Georgia in 2027.
Ryan Montgomery was the QB pushing Puglisi for the backup job, but his struggles on Saturday may have ended his chances of winning the job. He'll still have a chance to win the starting job next year, but for now it looks like the No. 2 spot on the depth chart is Puglisi's.
5. Georgia needs to play tougher competition
At this point it is abundantly clear that Georgia needs to face tougher competition. After beating Tennessee State 63-3 last week it looked like this week against FBS Western Kentucky could be a slightly more difficult challenge, but a 50-point win proved otherwise.
Georgia will begin SEC play next week on the road at Arkansas. The Razorbacks will likely be one of the worst teams in the conference this season, but they should be much better than either team Georgia has faced so far. The Bulldogs' first road game of the season could present new challenges as well.
All we know about Georgia so far is that they can destroy teams who are nowhere near their level. Their final 10 games of the season are all against Power Four teams though, so over the next few weeks we should learn just how good this team can be.
