Chance Gilbert is one of the most important recruits in the 2027 cycle for Georgia. He is a five-star safety from the state of Georgia, so it can't be overstated how important it is for UGA to win this battle.
Georgia is thankfully still in the running to win his recruitment, things however could be going much better. But let's begin first with the great things he recently said about Georgia.
“The best thing I like about them is they start the most freshmen,” Gilbert said via dawgnation.com. “That’s the number one thing that interests me about Georgia.”
5-star Chance Gilbert shows more interest in SEC rival
The opportunity to play as a true freshman is obviously a huge selling point for any elite prospect. Every year there are a few Bulldogs who play a lot and even start as freshmen, so that is something Georgia has in their favor going forward.
Gilbert is also high on Alabama and Clemson in his recruitment. Unfortunately it looks like Alabama might be the team to beat right now.
“That was definitely my dream school growing up,” Gilbert said. “But I won’t let that, well, people think that just because it was my dream school that I’m going to go there. I won’t let that dominate my decision. I’m just choosing the best option for me.”
Gilbert also spoke about Clemson, but the bad news for Tigers fans is that he doesn't seem that confident about going to Clemson at all.
”I love Clemson. It is just that I do want to play in the SEC and then they’re in the ACC, so that’s the one thing,” Gilbert said. “That doesn’t mean I won’t go there, though.”
Based on these comments alone it seems like this is a battle between Georgia and Alabama. Unfortunately it might be the Crimson Tide who lead the way right now, but hopefully the opportunity to play as a true freshman in his home state will be too much to pass up.
