Georgia football swung and missed with the No. 1 overall recruit in the country on Tuesday when five-star offensive tackle Jackson Cantwell chose to commit to Miami (FL) over UGA. Obviously this is a big loss for Georgia because of how talented of a recruit Cantwell is, but missing him is extra frustrating because the Bulldogs were thought to be the favorite to win this recruitment hours before his announcement.
But that is all in the past now and all Georgia can do is push forward and continue to try and build on their already impressive 2026 recruiting class. But it is tough to stop thinking about Cantwell after seeing him plummet in 247Sports updated recruiting rankings.
Jackson Cantwell drops seven spots after saying no to Georgia
247Sports released an update to their 2026 player rankings on Wednesday, and Cantwell ended up falling the most out of all the elite players in the class. While Cantwell was the No. 1 player in the country when combining each recruiting site together, 247Sports origianlly had him as their No. 3 overall player in the country. However, on Wednesday they dropped Cantwell seven spots all the way down to No. 10.
Funny enough, this is one spot below Georgia quarterback commit Jared Curtis who is the No. 9 overall recruit in the country.
Cantwell's decision to commit to Miami over Georgia likely had no impact on him dropping in these rankings, but it's still a little funny to see it happen after he broke the hearts of Georgia fans on Tuesday.
This however doesn't take away from how bad of a loss this was for UGA. Adding Cantwell would have been huge for Georgia whether he was the No. 3 or No. 10 player in the country, but this is undoubtedly a nice way to help get over this loss.
