5-star LaDamion Guyton's reason for choosing Texas Tech over Georgia makes no sense

It's all about the money.

Five-star EDGE LaDamion Guyton announced his commitment to Texas Tech over Georgia on Thursday. Guyton is the No. 1 overall player in the 2027 recruiting class and is from the Peach State, so this was a big loss for Georgia on the recruiting trail.

So how did UGA lose this recruitment to a program like Texas Tech who struggles to find any sort of success every season? Guyton shared on Thursday why he chose the Red Raiders over Georgia, but no one should believe what he is saying

Guyton chose Texas Tech over Georgia for the money

After committing to Texas Tech on Thursday, Guyton stated the following when asked what led him to choose the Red Raiders.

"It was the consistency and the family feel," Guyton shared via si.com. "I just feel like I can start a great thing at the program, and I'm ready to be a part of it."

There's no denying that part of the reason Guyton chose Texas Tech is because of the relationships he built with their coaching staff. However, the reported $3.5 million NIL offer Texas Tech gave him likely played a much larger role.

Blaming a recruiting loss on NIL is a popular thing for college football fans to do nowadays, but no one can deny that is what occurred here after Texas Tech General Manager James Blanchard shared his NIL strategy a few days before Guyton's commitment.

“If somebody is underpaying an elite guy ... only paying him $100-$200k I’m going to give him $300-$400k and go steal somebody.”

Georgia will not be giving up on Guyton just yet. His recruitment still has over a year left in it, so Kirby Smart and his staff will not be throwing in the towel and giving up with him. So don't be surprised to see Guyton make the trip to Athens at some point this season to take a game in at Sanford Stadium.
