Some recent recruiting news shocked the college football world as five-star linebacker Xavier Griffin announced he was decommitting from USC on Wednesday. Griffin is the No. 8 overall player in the country and top ranked linebacker according to 247Sports, so it’s not surprising that this news dominated the college football news cycle.

This news also has a major impact on Georgia because Griffin is from the state of Georgia. So it goes without saying that Kirby Smart and his staff would have a lot of interest in a top 10 player from the Peach State.

And that turns out to be the case because Griffin has already announced that he will be visiting Athens this weekend.

Xavier Griffin to visit Georgia this weekend

Griffin is someone that Georgia targeted in the past before he originally committed to USC back in July of 2024. This essentially ended Georgia’s pursuit of him, but it turns out UGA and other schools never gave up on Griffin completely.

So now that Griffin is back on the market, he will get the attention of many of the elite programs across the country. And Georgia is just the beginning of that attention as Ohio State, Alabama, Texas and Florida State have scheduled official visits for this summer as well.

Unfortunately for Georgia however, there already appears to be a team leading for Griffin. That team is Alabama, who received a crystal ball prediction in their favor on 247Sports Thursday morning. And to make it even worse for Georgia, the expert who placed that prediction is a UGA insider.

The good news for Georgia is that they still have plenty of time to win Griffin over, and that will begin this weekend when he is in Athens. It’s going to be difficult to accomplish, but if anyone is able to come from behind and win this recruitment it’s UGA and Smart.
