Georgia football has had some elite quarterbacks throughout their program's history. That's what has to happen in order to become one of the best college football programs of all time.
But sitting down and naming the top five quarterbacks in the history of Georgia football is no easy task, simply because of how many options there are. But that didn't stop former UGA quarterback Aaron Murray from doing just that recently.
Aaron Murray's top 5 Georgia QBs in program history
1. Stetson Bennett
2. Matthew Stafford
3. Aaron Murray
4. Fran Tarkenton
5. David Greene
Did Murray get this list right?
Coming up with a top five of Georgia QBs in the entire program's history is an extremely difficult thing to do, but there really isn't anything that stands out from Murray's list as being obviously wrong.
One of the things likely everyone was wondering was if he would include himself or not, as many people don't like to include themselves on these type of lists. But Murray not only still holds the all time passing yards record at Georgia with 13,166, but this is still the record in the entire SEC as well. So nobody should be upset with Murray including himself when he obviously deserves to be there.
It is also very interesting to see how Murray handled Stetson Bennett and Matthew Stafford. Most Georgia fans would probably agree that Stafford is the most gifted quarterback in Georgia history, but respect does need to be shown to Bennett for leading UGA to two National Championships. So Bennett being No. 1 with Stafford coming in at No. 2 is probably what most Georgia fans would do themselves as well.
Lastly, it is really cool to see Murray give a shoutout to Fran Tarkenton, who was an amazing QB for Georgia back in the late 50s and early 60s. Lists like these typically do not give enough credit to players who played a long time ago, but Murray made another great call by including Tarkenton at No. 4.
