Alabama will likely be without a key playmaker to face Georgia in the SEC title bout

Injuries are part of the game, but this would be a massive one impacting the SEC Championship.

Football is a game of injuries. It is not if you will get hurt playing this gladiator sport, but when. While Georgia is still trying to work back star linebacker CJ Allen, as well as seeing what the latest is on injured center Drew Bobo, Alabama will enter the SEC Championship Game beat up as well. The biggest injury of note for them happened in the Iron Bowl with their star running back Jam Miller.

He had to leave the Iron Bowl with a leg injury, and head coach Kalen DeBoer addressed it on Sunday.

“He’s got a lower leg injury. We’ll have to evaluate that here, we’ll probably have more information on Monday.”

From the looks of it, Miller being on crutches after the Iron Bowl is less than ideal for Alabama here...

Although one of Alabama's biggest weaknesses this year happens to be the ground game, Miller has been the straw that stirs the drink in that department all year whenever he is healthy. In nine games this season, the senior running back has had 123 carries for 493 yards and three touchdowns, to go along with 18 catches for 108 yards out of the backfield. He had 83 yards on the ground vs. Auburn.

FanDuel Sportsbook has Georgia listed as a slight 2.5-point favorite over Alabama on a neutral site.

How Jam Miller injury could impact SEC Championship Game for Georgia

There is no way around it. Beating the same team twice in one year is so hard. The last time Georgia played Alabama twice in one year, they won the second installment up in Indianapolis to claim the Bulldogs' first national title in 41 years in 2021. Alabama got the best of Georgia Between the Hedges back in September by three points. Georgia held Alabama scoreless in the second half in that game...

If Miller is unable to go, then that presents a huge problem for DeBoer, Ryan Grubb, Ty Simpson and the rest of the Crimson Tide offense. While Alabama may have to win this game to make the College Football Playoff with two losses on the season, Georgia is a lock to make the field, no matter the outcome. The big question is if they want to have a top-four seed, probably the No. 2 in all likelihood.

One of the things that has hurt Alabama down the stretch this season has been the Crimson Tide's largely one-dimensional offense. Yes, Simpson can spin it with the best of them, but asking him to do everything for them offensively is a bit much, especially at this stage of the game. Miller is at least able to provide some level of comfort out of the backfield when he is out there. So will he be playing?

Surely, Miller is going to try everything in his power to try and gut this one out. For that reason, he may even be more likely to play than Bobo in some capacities. Again, we will know more on the injury status of both players as the week goes along. There is one other thing working against Alabama in this regard...: The Iron Bowl was on Saturday night, while Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate was on Friday...

Maybe that extra day of rest could help Bobo, while having one less could be working against Miller?
