We are only a week into the new year, and things have yet to take a turn for the better for the Georgia Bulldogs' football program. They still have not won a game in the 12-team College Football Playoff. With the transfer portal kicking their tail, it is only being exacerbated by the fact that so many great players off last year's team have decided to turn pro. The latest NFL Draft entrant is Daylen Everette.

Here is Everette's message he put out on social media announcing his intentions of turning pro.

Everette was every bit the Damn Good Dawg for Georgia these last four years. He carved out a role in Kirby Smart's secondary, almost always coming up with the big play when his team's defense needed it the most. His best games were in the SEC Championship the last two seasons, as he had a field day picking off the Texas Longhorns and Alabama Crimson Tide en route to the College Football Playoff.

Of course, Georgia really need to address its defensive backfield in the coming days in the portal...

Daylen Everette turning pro puts even more pressure on UGA in portal

Everette has every reason to enter the 2025 NFL Draft. While he has a decent shot at being a day-two pick, he seems to be closer to a fourth-round guy. Although he has no chance of going inside the top 32 at this point in time, his ball skills and clutch performance should tickle the fancy of any number of NFL teams. Again, him turning pro was expected. Frankly, it would have been shocking had he stayed.

Overall, Georgia better hope that many of its young defensive stars blossom and round into form early on next season. It was a bit of a baptism by fire defensively for UGA a season ago. Outside of the Ole Miss games, Georgia did sort of figure it out on defense in the second half of the season. Nobody is going to remember that, but the Dawgs kind of did... Regardless, this is still a tough blow.

To attempt to tie a bow on this, next year's Georgia team will ride heavily on the leadership of several key contributors. Whether it be Gunner Stockton or Nate Frazier on offense, or KJ Bolden or Ellis Robinson IV on defense, they are going to have to be the ones to take the mantle from those heading to the NFL like Everette. Again, nobody can blame him for pursuing his dreams in the NFL after 2025.

We can now add defensive back to Georgia's glaring needs at wide receiver and in the trenches, too.
