Once again, Georgia basketball’s star freshman Asa Newell was chosen as last week's SEC Freshman of the Week after averaging 16.5 points and 2.0 steals per game. Newell shot an astounding 61.1 percent from the floor, which included 57.1 percent from 3-point range. Free throw shooting has been a struggle this season for Georgia, but Newell shot a sizzling 77.8 percent from the charity stripe last week.
This is the 4th time that the Freshman of the Week honor has been bestowed upon Newell and he is now tied with Georgia great Anthony Edwards for the most all-time by a Bulldog.

Asa Newell week in review
In two games last week, Newell scored 17 points against LSU and 16 points against Mississippi State, respectively. Georgia split these two games 1-1, but Newell surely would gladly trade the Freshman of the Week honor for a victory over Mississippi State.
For the season, Newell has compiled a total of 368 points and 162 rebounds, both are tops on the team.
Newell's previous Freshman of the Week honors were on November 18th (13.5 points, 8 rebounds, 1.5 blocks and 1.5 assists), December 9th (20 points and 11 rebounds) and January 13th (16.0 points and 4.5 rebounds).
Up Next for Georgia
After a tough home loss to No. 22 Mississippi State, Georgia hits the road for a late evening affair in College Station, Texas, to take on No. 8 Texas A&M at the Reed Center, Tuesday night at 9:00 PM, EST. The game will be televised on the SEC Network. Dave Neal and Jon Sundvold will be handling the play-by-play for the game.
So while ever Georgia fan will be watching closely to see if Mike White and UGA can get a big win and improve their NCAA Tournament resume, another thing to watch is how Newell performs individually. Because all it takes is one more Freshman of the Week honor for Newell to set the program record in Athens.
