Brock Bowers named a finalist for major NFL award

The NFL has reached the conference championships in the NFL Playoffs, so that means it is time to start discussing who is going to win the league's various postseason awards. One of those awards is Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Unfortunately for former Georgia football wide receiver Ladd McConkey, he was not named one of the five finalists for this award even if he may have deserved to be. But there is another rookie Bulldog who was named one of the five finalists for this award.

Las Vegas Raiders tight end Brock Bowers

To likely no one's surprise, Las Vegas Raiders tight end Brock Bowers was named one of the five finalists for the Offensive Rookie of the Year award. Bowers finished this season with an impressive 112 receptions for 1,194 yards and five touchdowns, which clearly deserves a lot of recognition.

The other four rookies to also be nomintaed for this award are Jayden Daniels (Washington Commanders QB), Malik Nabers (New York Giants WR), Bo Nix (Denver Broncos QB) and Brian Thomas Jr. (Jacksonville Jaguars WR).

Unfortunately for Bowers, it does seem unlikely that he will win this award. Bowers probably gets the nod to win this award over the two wide receivers and maybe even Nix, but Daniels likely will be the winner of this award. Not only did Daniels have a great season all year long, but he led the Commanders to the playoffs where they have won two games including last week's win over the 1-seed Detroit Lions.

So the fact that a rookie QB led his team to the NFC Championship game is reason enough to name them the Offensive Rookie of the Year. This however shouldn't take away from the season Bowers had because it was arguably the greatest rookie season from a tight end in NFL history. And if Bowers stays on this track, he has a chance to go down as one of the greatest tight ends in NFL history.
