There will not be much of an argument if someone were to say Matthew Stafford has had the best NFL career for a quarterback out of Georgia in program history. Winning a Super Bowl and most recently an NFL MVP award in his career, Stafford has remained one of the top quarterbacks in the league for several seasons now.

However, he was just handed yet another honor by being called the best quarterback in the NFL by Pete Prisco of CBS Sports. In his annual Top 100 NFL Player Rankings, he had Stafford as the second-best player in the league, only behind now teammate Myles Garrett.

Matthew Stafford rightfully named best NFL QB

Anybody who won MVP the previous year, in majority opinion, should be considered the best player in that respective sport going into the next season. However, as a Georgia Bulldog fan we will take this level of respect. Stafford led the NFL in both passing yards and touchdown passes, as noted by Prisco in his explanation for Stafford being the No. 2 overall in the league.

The real testament to Stafford's play is the fact that last year he did not even make the top 100 list for Prisco. Though he is nearing the end of his career, Stafford is playing at an elite level nobody can ignore. The Rams still remain a high caliber playoff team that can compete for Super Bowls. Especially now that they landed Garrett in a blockbuster trade this offseason, there is no denying the fact that the Rams have a legitimate chance to go all the way.

Stafford ranks above notable names like Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes in this list, guys who have previously won MVP but have much less experience.

As far as Georgia alumni goes, Georgia has never really been known as a program to produce elite NFL quarterbacks like this. Unless you go back to the Fran Tarkenton days, the success at the college level has not been an easy transition to the NFL. However, Stafford has started to break that mold.

With Gunner Stockton doing as well as he has been in just a year of starting in Athens, maybe he could be the next one to do great things at the NFL level one day. You can also look ahead to guys like Ryan Puglisi and seeing how well Kirby Smart has started to recruit at that position. Regardless of what the future holds for Georgia quarterbacks, Stafford has made every Bulldog faithful proud.
