The College Football Playoff just expanded to 12 teams two years ago, but certain conferences and athletic departments are already pushing for even more changes. Thankfully those efforts have all fallen short so far, but there is a new change on the horizon for the 2026 season.
And this change could spell bad news for Georgia.

CFP committee is doing everything they can to hurt Georgia
A big gripe that many fans have with the playoff format is how long it takes to unfold. Conference championships are played during the first weekend of December and this year the National Championship game was played on Jan. 20. A month and a half is way too much time to play four rounds of playoff football, so fans would love to see this timeframe shrink.
Unfortunately next year the National Championship game will be played five days later on Jan. 25. The quarterfinals will continue to be played on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, but the semifinals will be a whole two weeks later on Jan 14 and 15 as well.
The reason this amount of time between games is so bad is because teams are used to playing every week. So having an abnormal amount of time between playoff games has a significant impact on how good teams look once they finally play again.
This gap between games has arguably been the biggest reason why Georgia is 0-2 in the playoff since it expanded to 12 teams. They have proven that things don't work out so well for them when they have all this time off, especially when their opponent has played more recently than them, so it's unfortunate that the amount of time they have off is getting even longer.
Adding even more time between games could mean that Georgia could struggle even more going forward. Hopefully that is not the case, but in a perfect world the playoff committee will adjust this schedule to there isn't so much time between games.
