Georgia football has announced some major scheduling changes for their upcoming seasons in 2026 and 2027. The Bulldogs were scheduled to begin a home-and-home series with Louisville next year, but both programs announced on Wednesday that this series has officially been cancelled.
The SEC played a big part in this decision when they added a ninth conference game beginning in 2026. Georgia already had four non-conference games scheduled for next season, so they had no choice but to cancel on one of those teams. Unfortunately Georgia picked the only power four opponent (outside of Georgia Tech) to cancel on, and fans have the College Football Playoff committee to thank for that.
The Georgia Bulldogs and Louisville have mutually agreed to cancel their home-and-home series for the 2026-27 seasons.

CFP committee forced Georgia to make unfortunate schedule cancellation
The playoff committee has proven over the last few years that strength of schedule does not matter. Just this year Texas was punished for losing at Ohio State and Indiana was rewarded for playing one of the easiest schedules of all time. So it’s clear that playing big non-conference matchups can only hurt teams, so Georgia is doing what they have to do and cancelled on Louisville.
Georgia also has four other big home-and-home series scheduled with Ohio State, Clemson, Florida State and NC State in the future. All four of those series would be amazing for everyone to experience, but it unfortunately might just be a matter of time until they get cancelled as well.
Georgia’s 2026 schedule is now set as they will play Georgia Tech, Western Kentucky, Tennessee State, Auburn, Oklahoma, Vanderbilt and Missouri at home. They will also hit the road to play Alabama, Arkansas, Ole Miss and South Carolina along with their neutral site game against Florida.
Georgia and Louisville cancelling their series was the right thing to do, but it’s unfortunate that it’s gotten to this point. There is still time for the committee to change course and start rewarding teams who play tougher schedules, and every football fan should want that so the sport continues to have massive non-conference games like this one would have been.
