At some point, the tide is going to turn in the Georgia Bulldogs' favor when it comes to facing the Alabama Crimson Tide. In the meantime, it would be so incredibly delightful if the Dawgs stopped beating themselves mentally every time they play their emerging SEC rival. For whatever reason, the brain farts keep coming and will not stop coming when Georgia faces this team. It is so in their heads.
As if we needed any more proof of those, look no further than one of the worst mental lapses you will see on a football field in quite some time. With Alabama pretty much in control of the game in the final minutes, Georgia defensive back Ellis Robinson IV was all gas, no brakes when it came to diving onto the scrum in the middle of the field. This foolish mistake gave Alabama 15 more yards to work with...
ESPN's Kirk Herbstreit was beside himself when assessing what Robinson did while calling the game.
"This isn't a practice. What the hell are you thinking?"
His colleague Chris Fowler described it as such with the penalty being so late after the play ended.
"That wasn't late. That was way late."
For Georgia fans who love to torture themselves, here is the play where Robinson removed all doubt.

Even though he is still a young player, there is a certain standard starters need to play with at Georgia.
Ellis Robinson IV's boneheaded maneuver proves problematic for Georgia
This is painful to say, but the frequent mental lapses that Robinson is starting to put forth feel like they are reserved for either a Todd Granthan or Willie Martinez defense on one of Mark Richt's staffs. Surely, there is time for Robinson to grow and mature, but you simply cannot have players out there on the field in moments of great consequence that you cannot trust to play with a sense of maturity.
The good news for Georgia is the Bulldogs' season is not over, far from it in fact. However, the Dawgs can afford may one more loss the rest of the way. They still have to play the likes of Ole Miss, Texas and Georgia Tech before the season ends. This does not include potentially pesky opponents such as Auburn, Mississippi State and even Florida. Alabama is Alabama, but Georgia has to be better now.
In the end, for what Georgia has in terms of weapons on offense and depth all around the gridiron, it most certainly does not make up for having two mediocre coordinators and an increasingly undisciplined football team. Just because Georgia won back-to-back national titles two years ago does not mean they are ever guaranteed of winning another one. This team needs to grow up fast!
The best part in this is Robinson has a chance to mature as the season progresses to redeem himself.
