CJ Allen was the third Georgia Bulldog taken in the NFL Draft as the Indianapolis Colts took him with the 53rd overall pick.
Allen expected to be taken during the first round, so after waiting a whole day longer he was excited to finally hear his name called. And during his first interview with the Colts he made sure to let his new fans know exactly who they are getting.
“You are getting a dawg,” Allen said via horseshoeheroes.com. “A true linebacker. You are getting a physical linebacker who can run.”

Allen’s description of himself couldn’t have been more accurate. He is everything that Kirby Smart looks for in his linebackers, and it’s that toughness that took him to the next level.
Allen spent just three seasons at Georgia, but throughout his career he kept getting better and better. His final season he finished with career highs in tackles (88), sacks (3.5) and forced fumbles (2) while being the best leader on a really talented defense. But it’s what he did as a freshman when he had to step in after countless veterans were injured that show how special of a player he truly is.
His stats will impress anyone, especially considering he was playing injured his senior year, but it’s these attributes that should really excite Colts fans.
No one is tougher than Allen. No one is willing to put their head down and stop the run like him. Anyone can claim these things, but time and time again he proved that he’s the stereotypical linebacker that every team needs.
The Colts got an absolute steal. Allen could’ve gone much earlier in the draft, but the fact he fell all the way to the bottom of the second round should make Colts fans even more excited.
