Georgia football wide receiver Colbie Young has been suspended for quite some time now after misdemeanor charges of assault on an unborn child and battery were filed against him on Oct. 8, 2024.
These allegation are obviously very serious, so while they were being settled the obvious decision was for Kirby Smart to suspend Young from the football team. However, about a month later, Young's case has taken an unexpected turn.
Accuser asks charges against Young to be dropped
Late Wednesday night, the accuser in this case has asked that all charges against Young to be dropped.
Young's attorney, Kim Stephens, released a statement to the press on Wednesday which included a signed affidavit from the woman who accused Young in this domestic case. In the affidavit, the accuser repeatedly asked authorities to drop all of the charges against Young.
"To be clear, Colbie Young did not commit any act of violence toward me or my unborn child,” Young's accuser stated in the affidavit.
Young's attorney had this to share about the ongoing case and investigation.
"Colbie Young did not make physical contact with his ex-girlfriend in any way that could ever be considered a crime and I expect Mr. Young to be exonerated once our investigation is complete and the truth revealed."
It remains to be seen if the charges against Young will actually be dropped by authorities. But until that point, Young will likey remain suspended while the authorities decide how they want to handle his case going forward.
It will be interesting to see what the state and authorities decide to do after this statment from the accuser. They have not commented on this press release or affidavit yet, but with this news being so fresh it is likely only a matter of time until even more details are released to the public.
