Excitement was at an all time high Tuesday night as Georgia football and Notre Dame were set to do battle in the College Football Playoff quarterfinals at the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans, that is until a horrific attack took place in downtown New Orleans early Wednesday morning.
10 individuals lost their lives and at least 25 more were injured after a man in a white pickup truck plowed through pedestrians celebrating the New Year. Everyone's thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their famalies as this tragedy and helping those in need is far more important than any football game.
With that being said, everyone still wants to know if this game will still be played Wednesday evening or if it will be postponed to a later date. Many think it is the smart choice to delay the game out of respect to the people impacted and from fear of another incident occurring, and that is exactly what was just announced.
Sugar Bowl postponed to Thursday
Georgia football and Notre Dame's CFP game has officially been postponed to Thursday, Jan. 2 at 4:00 pm EST. While it is unfortunate that the game will not be played when originally scheduled, the circumstances definitely call for a delay so absolutely no one should be upset by this news.
It will be interesting to see how the teams and players react to this delay as an extra day will throw everyone off from what they were expecting. But these tragic events will likely cause the biggest distraction as each player is worried for their own safety and for the safety of any friends and family they had coming to the game.
Stay tuned for any more updates as this story unfolds, and to all the Georgia and Notre Dame fans in New Orleans, please stay safe.
