ESPN’s College GameDay is live at LSU, and Gunner Stockton once again is being discredited ahead of Georgia’s first game of the season.
GameDay was highlighting some of the notable quarterbacks across the country in one of their segments. They listed eight quarterbacks who are about to begin their seasons, but Stockton was somehow not included on this list.

College GameDay forgot that Gunner Stockton even exists
In case anyone forgot, Gunner Stockton finished seventh in Heisman Trophy voting last year. Now he’s back for his second season as a full time starter on a Georgia team ranked No. 3 in the country, but he somehow isn’t a notable quarterback according to GameDay.
All eight quarterbacks listed deserve to be recognized. There are a few however that don’t deserve it over Stockton, but instead of eliminating someone GameDay should just add Stockton and make the graphic nine players.
Instead they chose to forget about Stockton even though he deserves to be there. Just look at Texas quarterback Arch Manning for example who’s probably gotten the most hype out of anyone this offseason. He only had 200 more passing yards and two more touchdowns than Stockton last year, but he’s somehow being touted as a much better player than Stockton.
What people are forgetting is that Stockton and Georgia not only beat Texas last year but they won the SEC. They also made the College Football Playoff while Texas sat on their couches at home watching the playoff unfold on their TVs.
Manning deserves to be recognized on this list, but so does Stockton. If GameDay isn’t going to give Stockton the basic respect he deserves then maybe they’d be better off just not talking about quarterbacks because if he’s not being talked about then no one should.
Gunner Stockton has a golden opportunity to garner attention
Stockton and Georgia face Tennessee State to open their season. They are favored by nearly 50 points and are expected to dominate from the moment the game begins, and Stockton is expected to have a big game.
Kirby Smart likes to rest his starters in these games once the game gets out of hand though, so Stockton will have to make his mark early in this game. He however should be able to throw for close to 200 yards while adding a few touchdowns through the air or on the ground.
He won’t have as good of stats as other quarterbacks who play an entire game this weekend, so fans and analysts who only watch box scores might think Stockton had a worse game compared to them. In reality though as long as Stockton handles his business he will begin his journey to contend for the Heisman Trophy just like last year.
At the end of the day Stockton probably doesn't care if he gets attention or not. All he cares about is winning and if he wins individual awards along the way then so be it, but Geogia is focused on team success which is what matters most.
