Georgia is back to playing championship defense near the end of the season as the Bulldogs limited Georgia Tech to just 69 rushing yards in Saturday's season finale victory. The defense played Georgia Tech exactly how they should've been played. Shutting down the rushing game and forcing Georgia Tech to throw the ball in tough situations.
Saturday wasn't the only dominant performance for Georgia this season either. The Bulldogs also controlled a Texas offense that can give anyone in the country trouble with the playmakers they have on their team.
Georgia's defense wasn't always a strength this season, but that has quickly changed. The Georgia defense is looking fast and dominant and he adjustments made in every game have been nothing short of special. Kirby Smart and Glenn Schumann have been masters of adjusting to what offenses are doing in the second half and neutralizing them, but it is Schumann who deserves a majority of that credit. In fact, Schumann arguably deserves a lot more credit on a national level than he has been receiving.
Glenn Schumann has turned Georgia's defense around
The defense's eye test also matches NCAA statistics as the Bulldogs are No. 5 in country in rushing defense. The defense is also No. 13 in the country in total defense and No. 20 in first down defense under Schumann and Smart.
Georgia has one nomination for the Broyles Award with Offensive Coordinator Mike Bobo. He rightly deserves the credit for how the offense is playing, but both coordinators should have been nominated for this award given how both units are playing are right now.
Schumann deserves national praise for the turnaround with his defense. Georgia is primed for another College Football Playoff run, and with the defense playing this well few teams will be able to stop this UGA team.
