There are so many great high school prospects in Georgia that it's impossible to take them all. And sometimes the perceived slight from an in-state prospect will lead them to choose a conference rival.
That seemed to be the case with three-star safety prospect Jowell Combay, who chose Tennesseeover a group of programs that may or may not have included Georgia.
Combay, listed at 6-foot-1, 192 pounds, is from Marietta, and it's almost guaranteed that he was on the Bulldogs' radar at some point during his recruitment. It's rare that Kirby Smart and his staff aren't going to check out a P4-quality prospect that resides in the state.
But the prospect never took an official visit to Athens. Instead, Combay chose to go to Tennessee, Wisconsin, Missouri, South Carolina and Oklahoma State. When Combay made his announcement on Wednesday at Kell High School, it's hard to identify if there was even a Georgia hat on the table.
The #Vols just landed their second major 2026 commitment from Georgia in a week.

A big recruiting win for Josh Heupel and his staff.

The hats from left to right look like Wisconsin (I think that's Bucky Badger on that bill), South Carolina, Missouri and Tennessee. Maybe the Missouri hat could be a Georgia hat. The video doesn't make it completely clear.
Regardless of whether the Bulldogs were a player in Combay's recruitment or not, Tennessee fans THINK they got one over on Georgia and, for that reason alone, it makes them feel better.

Fact is, Georgia is sitting pretty with safety recruiting. The Bulldogs already have commitments from two four-star prospects, Jordan Smith and Zech Fort. Both are rated in the top 150 nationally and top 15 at the position. The Bulldogs also have Kealan Jones, a three-star prospect from Marietta (Sprayberry High).
This isn't to say anything of Combay's talent. Tennessee is a solid program that has produced tons of NFL talent. Combay has really good size for the position and looks like a player. So best of luck to the young man.
So congratulations Vol fans, you got one. Throw a parade.
