President Donald Trump once again is getting involved with college athletics. He previously met with leaders in the college football space to discuss ways of making the sport better. A lot of those conversations centered around fixing the mess that is the Transfer Portal, and President Trump left that meeting saying he would work on drafting an executive order.

Fast forward to Friday and Trump held up his end of the bargain and signed an executive order into place. This executive order allows college athletes to play five seasons in a five year period with the option for one free transfer at any point in their career. A second free transfer is allowed if the athlete has graduated, but if an athlete transfers for a second time without graduating first they will have to sit out for a year.

It's only a matter of time until someone fights this order in court, so this order may not hold up for long. But if it does, President Trump just gave Kirby Smart's biggest advantage back to Georgia.

Not many programs can recruit like Georgia. Since Smart became head coach they have always been at the top of the recruiting rankings every year, and at some point that amount of talent is just impossible to compete with (see the 2021 and 2022 seasons).

The Transfer Portal however gave teams a new way to collect enough talent to finally be competitive and in some cases beat Georgia. This new order from President Trump will limit the amount of players that transfer which will decrease the chances that teams can successfully compete for titles just by using the portal.

High school recruiting and developing those players will carry a much larger importance now. That is something that is right up Smart's alley, so don't be surprised to see Georgia become even more dominant if this order doesn't get overturned by the courts.
