Georgia football entered the 2025 season with a lot of new faces stepping into big roles on both sides of the ball. This was especially the case on offense where Georgia was starting a new quarterback in Gunner Stockton who has a few new weapons alongside him.
Georgia's season opener on Saturday against Marshall went about as well as anyone could have hoped as UGA took down Marshall 45-7. And one of the biggest reasons why the Bulldogs were able to be so dominant was because of a dynamic duo that is forming in Georgia's offense.
Gunner Stockton, Zachariah Branch will lead Georgia's offense
Stockton isn't a new face for Georgia this season as he did lead Georgia's offense for 1.5 games last season, but Saturday did feel like the first start of his career. Stockton thankfully did not disappoint as he proved all of the doubters wrong and showed that he has the talent to lead Georgia to a great season this year.
During the first home start of his career, Stockton completed 14 of 24 passes for 190 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran the ball 10 times for a whopping 73 yards and two more touchdowns.
While this was a dream start for Stockton, he wouldn't have been able to do it without his new star wide receiver Zachariah Branch. Branch is a transfer from USC who was tabbed as one of the most electric players in all of college football. He thankfully lived up to that hype against Marshall as he turned three receptions into 95 yards and a touchdown.
Stockton was clearly most effective with his legs on Saturday. His running ability will have to be respected by every opponent Georgia plays this season, which will only make life easier in the passing game for Branch and the rest of UGA's wide receivers. But it is Branch who broke through as Stockton's top option out wide, and this duo looks like it will do wonders for Georgia's offense all season long.
