The new 12-team College Football Playoff era has brought a lot of excitement to many college football fanbases throughout the country. The main reason being that expansion has given more programs a chance to finally make the CFP when they were unable to do so during the 4-team playoff era.
But for programs like Georgia football who made the CFP multiple times in the 4-team era, expansion made it very difficult for them to ever miss the playoffs. Sure it is still possible for them to miss the playoffs like Alabama did this past season, but Georgia fans will find that the Bulldogs are more than likely to make the CFP every season now.
However, making the playoff is only half the battle as Georgia then needs to beat many strong teams if they want to win a National Championship. That proved to be too difficult this past season as UGA lost in their first playoff game against Notre Dame.
But that is in the past now, the only thing that matters is how Georgia will do next season in the 2026 edition of the College Football Playoff. It is tough to get a good read on Georgia's chances heading into next season, but ESPN showed that they have a lot of confidence in Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs heading into next year.
ESPN predicts a deep run for Georgia in 2026 College Football Playoff
ESPN gave their prediction for the entire 2026 CFP, and they have Georgia making a deep run in the playoffs next season. The first thing worth mentioning is that ESPN is predicting Georgia will be the No. 1 overall seed. That means that ESPN believes Georgia will repeat as SEC Champions and likely lose no more than one game along the way.
But the fun doesn't stop there for Georgia as ESPN has them winning multiple games in the CFP. This includes a quarterfinal win against Michigan and semifinal win against Alabama. The good news for Georgia unfortunately stops there as ESPN projects Penn State to beat Georgia in next season's National Championship game.
While it would be upsetting to lose in the title game, this projection would still result in a very good season for Georgia. Hopefully UGA will be able to prove ESPN wrong in the title game, but it would be really exciting if everything else that ESPN predicted comes true.
