Georgia football defeated Charlotte in dominant fashion on Saturday 35-3. While this victory was abot as lopsided as it can be, it still wasn't anything to write home about because of how bad of a team Charlotte is compared to Georgia. But still, the Bulldogs did what they were supposed to do and emerged with an easy victory.
But not everyone was impressed with this victory, and that includes ESPN who decided to drop Georgia in their Football Power Index (FPI) rankings after this win.
ESPN unimpressed with Georgia's win over Charlotte
Entering Saturday's matchup Georgia was the No. 4 team in the country according to EPSN's FPI rankings. However, after their 32 point win they dropped two spots to No. 6.
Ohio State and Indiana unsurprisingly remained at No. 1 and 2 like they are in every other ranking, but the rest of the teams above Georgia don't make a lot of sense. Notre Dame is one of the three other teams ranked above Georgia, and they only have one quality win this season. Oregon also doesn't have that many good wins on their resume either outside of their recent victory over USC, but the Ducks are above Georgia as well.
Then there is Alabama who is No. 5 who does have a win at Georgia this season, but their ugly loss to Florida State and recent defeat to Oklahoma should have them behind UGA.
At the end of the day these rankings don't really mean all that much. The only ranking that does matter are the College Football Playoff rankings as that will determine Georgia's fate for the rest of the season.
The next edition of the CFP rankings will come out on Tuesday and Georgia should expect to remain at No. 4. And with one more week in the regular season to go the Bulldogs are right where they want to be.
