Georgia football has been at the center of the college football world all season long. And there is no better way of seeing that than the fact that ESPN’s College GameDay has been to a Georgia game a record three times this season.
And that number is growing again this week at the SEC Championship game as ESPN’s flagship program will be in Atlanta for Georgia’s rematch against Texas.
College GameDay is coming to the SEC Championship game
As mentioned, this will be the fourth time GameDay has come to a Georgia game this season. GameDay first went to Alabama when the Bulldogs lost a close game to the Tide. After that they came to Texas when Georgia upset the No. 1 team in the country and followed that up with their first and only trip to Athens when UGA beat Tennessee.
Georgia has had an up and down relationship this season with GameDay, specifically during the Texas game. The crew gave Georgia zero chance at beating Texas, but what did Georgia do? Dominated the Longhorns the entire game en route to their 15-point victory. So it will be interesting to see who the crew picks this time around in this rematch.
GameDay was at the SEC Championship game last year when Georgia took on Alabama. The GameDay crew was pretty split in who they picked that day, but Pat McAfee trolled Bulldogs’ fans before breaking their hearts and picking the Tide to win. Hopefully he doesn’t pull that off again.
After a could upsets this weekend, Georgia is likely to climb into the College Football Playoff top 5, while Texas will likely move up to No. 2. So this game will be the biggest game of the conference championship weekend by far, and it has a ton in the line as well.
The winner of the game will automatically earn a top four seed and first round bye in the CFP. The loser will still make the 12-team field, but have to win four games to win it all.
So winning this game is as important as any other, because Georgia desperately needs the extra time off that comes with the first round bye. So hopefully Kirby Smart is able to do the improbable, and beat the same team twice in the same season.
