Gunner Stockton is entering the College Football Playoff as one of the top quarterbacks in the country. After going through the last offseason constantly hearing analysts say how he won’t be good enough this year, Stockton has proven them all wrong and left no doubt that he is an elite player.
However, ESPN’s Matt Miller predicted which Bulldogs he think will be selected in the NFL Draft drafted this summer, and Stockton was not included on his list. That however could be a good thing because that means Stockton will likely return for one more season next year.
ESPN may have revealed Gunner Stockton’s future plans
Stockton helped lead Georgia to yet another remarkable season which included winning the SEC with a 12-1 record and entering the playoff as the No. 3 overall seed. The Bulldogs also have the third best odds to win the national title, so Stockton has Georgia in a great position heading into the playoff.
Stockton is not the best QB in the country, even the biggest Georgia fans would admit that. But he clearly has NFL talent that some team will be willing to take a chance on, but Miller doesn’t think that would happen in the draft this summer. He believes that 15 Bulldogs will be drafted, but he doesn’t think Stockton would make the cut.
Normally this would be enough to upset Georgia fans, but it actually should do the exact opposite. This shows that Stockton more than likely will be returning next year for one final season even after the great year he had this season.
So even in the best scenario where Georgia wins a National Championship behind a heroic effort from Stockton, there is a great chance he’ll stull return to Georgia next season. And if that happens UGA could be well on their way to winning their fourth national title in the last six years.
