Georgia football was already featured on ESPN's College GameDay last week when they played at Tennessee, but this weekend gave the Bulldogs a great chance to host GameDay in Athens when Alabama comes to town. Unfortunately GameDay has decided to head elsewhere as they will be at Penn State for their showdown against the Oregon Ducks.

College GameDay made a crucial mistake in Week 5 selection

It is impossible to have a bigger matchup than Georgia and Alabama. These two teams are the best programs in the country, so it automatically is the biggest game in the country whenever they play each other.

That is even the case even if there is a matchup between two higher ranked teams which is the case next weekend. Penn State and Oregon are both ranked inside the top 10 of the AP Poll while Alabama is on the outside looking in, but that shouldn't matter. Georgia and Alabama is the biggest spectacle this sport can offer, so GameDay is making a huge mistake by choosing to attend a different game.

The good news for Georgia is that they have a great chance at hosting GameDay later this season. The most likely game that GameDay will attend is when Texas comes to town on Nov. 15. There is also a chance they could host GameDay on Oct. 18 when UGA plays Ole Miss as long as the Rebels keep winning.

Either way, it is a shame that GameDay isn't coming to Georgia this weekend because they are missing out on what will be the best game of week five. Even if Penn State and Oregon is a higher ranked matchup, the history between Georgia and Alabama speaks for itself and should have been enough for GameDay to come to Athens instead.

Georgia and Alabama are scheduled to do battle on Saturday, Sep. 27 at 7:30 pm EST in Sanford Stadium.
