Potentially Georgia football's greatest acquisition so far this offseason is wide receiver Zachariah Branch, who earlier this offseason announced that he and his brother were transferring to Georgia from USC.
While both players are great and will be able to contribute on the field, it is Zachariah who UGA fans are the most excited for. And it's not hard to see why since Branch is the No. 4 wide receiver in the transfer portal according to 247Sports.
So what kind of player is Georgia getting from Branch? Fans won't really get to see him in action until later this fall, but his ex-USC teammate Jaylin Smith was asked about him at the NFL Combine this past weekend.
Jaylin Smith speaks on Zachariah Branch at Georgia
“That’s an explosive guy,” Smith shared via uga.rivals.com. “He comes in every day, ready to work. He’s super-fast, but everyone knows that.”
“Oh, man, I can name so many practices. Different periods. He probably got the best of me at once, or I got the best of him at once. But I know he'd come back in team and make some plays against me,” Smith continued. “But it’s like they say, iron sharpens iron. Everybody knows what his explosiveness does, what he can do on special teams.”
“They're (Georgia) getting a great playmaker and a receiver. I know he's a dynamic guy, and someone who can get off the press. It’s easy for him to run by guys.”
If these quotes don't get Georgia fans excited about the addition of Branch, then likely nothing will. Everyone knows how much of a liability Georgia's wide receiver room was at times last year, but the hope is that this is a thing of the past now. And it sounds like Branch will be able to quickly change the course of Georgia's offense the second he steps on the field.
