Multiple Georgia football players and Kirby Smart have spoken with the media throughout this week about Georgia's upcoming showdown with Texas in the SEC Championship game. And while many interesting answers were given after some great questions by reporters, the one answer that went the most viral on social media was a question posed to Carson Beck.
And it was a very interesting response to go viral because it didn't have much to do with Georgia's upcoming game or the regular season they just completed.
A reporter asked Beck if he watched the Texas vs. Texas A&M game Saturday night in preparation for the SEC Championship game. Beck resonded to that by saying he doesn't really watch football, and that response concerned many people throughout the fanbase.
Georgia fans took this comment a little too literally as they thought Beck was saying he never watches football, even when he is preparing for Georgia's next game. But as Brooks Austin with Georgia Bulldogs on SI explained, that is not what Beck meant at all.
People freaking out about “I don’t watch football”

There’s a vast difference between watching TV football and watching tape.

Watching live football game stresses Carson Beck too much
Beck explained in his answer that watching football games live stresses him out too much. Instead of being able to sit back, relax and enjoy the game, Beck said he is too worried about analyzing what the quarterbacks are doing. He wonders why they made the play call they did, what the defense is doing, or why they threw the ball where they did. Essentially he isn't able to turn his brain off and just enjoy a football game.
This mindset however is perfect for watching film, which Beck does still do. When watching film to prepare for Georgia's next game, dissecting all these plays this much is exactly what you want to do. So Beck still puts in the time to be adequately prepared for UGA's next game, and by the sounds of it he probably prepares more than the average quarterback.
Sure Beck doesn't watch football in the traditional sense like fans do, but he does watch more football than any fans do. He logs more hours watching football (flim) than any fan could comprehend, so there is no reason for Georgia fans to freak out about this comment because Beck still watches football when it's important to prepare for a game.
