As the hype for Georgia's big trip to Texas this weekend continues to grow, one thing on my mind that I could not shake was fear. Fear that something is going to happen to Georgia that eliminates my excitement and positivity surrounding this football team.

I thought the only way I’d be feeling sad this weekend is if Georgia lost to Texas. I unfortunately couldn’t have been more wrong.

Five-star QB Jared Curtis decommits from Georgia

Georgia lost a major commitment late on Thursday night when five-star quarterback Jared Curtis decommitted from the program. Curtis had been committed to the Bulldogs since March 23rd, but ultimately decided to move away from the program.

”This morning I spoke with Coach Smart and Coach Bobo and let them know that I still love Georgia, but would like to take some more time to explore all my options so I can make the best, most informed decision for my future,” Curtis said via The Clemson Insider. “I let them know it just doesn’t seem right or fair to stay committed while checking out other programs. People need to know where I stand and I’ve learned that making big decisions takes time.”

It quite literally is impossible to lose a more talented recruit than Curtis. According to the 247Sports composite rankings, he is the No. 6 overall player in the 2026 class. He also is the No. 1 QB and the No. 1 player from Tennessee as well.

So yeah, this one hurts.

On the bright side, Curtis is a member of the 2026 class. This means that Kirby Smart and his staff have time to pivot and find someone to replace Curtis. But according to the recruiting rankings, it will be impossible to find someone better. I know that’s not always an indicator of who will become the better player throughout their career, but this just shows how massive this loss on the recruiting trail was.

Who is Curtis interested in?

According to Pete Nakos with On3, Georgia is still in the running for Curtis. But if I’ve learned anything from following recruiting, it’s that recruits rarely commit to a program a second time after decommitting from them. So I wouldn’t hold your breath hoping he commits to Georgia again.

Nakos also shared that Curtis has interest in USC, Ohio State, Oregon, South Carolina, Clemson, and Alabama moving forward.

I really hope Georgia wins this weekend, because losing on the field after losing on the recruiting trail would be tough to overcome.
