No one can deny that Georgia’s 28-6 win against Austin Peay wasn’t disappointing. Sure the defense only gave up six points and UGA’s special teams was solid as well, but the Bulldogs issues on offense overshadowed all of the positives that existed from this game.
This win now casts some doubt on how good Georgia can be this season. Are they a team that can win the SEC and compete in the College Football Playoff? Or will they be a team that wins nine games but doesn’t really contend for anything of value?
Those questions will be answered soon enough, but for now Georgia fans will continue to feel a little disappointed after Saturday’s win.
There is one positive takeaway from this weekend though, at least Georgia isn’t Florida.
Florida's embarrassing loss gives Georgia fans some hope
While Georgia fans can feel disappointed after their win on Saturday, it could have been a lot worse. And rival Florida is the perfect example of how much worse it could have been.
The Gators entered their matchup on Saturday against South Florida as the No. 13 team in the country. There were serious concernes that the Gators could compete with Georgia this season, but those concerns no longer exist after their 18-16 loss on Saturday.
Quarterbak DJ Lagway also struggled and showed that he hasn't taken a step forward compated to last season, so that gives UGA fans some hope in Gunner Stockton who didn't make any huge mistakes on Saturday like Lagway did.
So while Georgia needs to keep focusing on themselves as they have a lot they need to improve on, it is nice to see another team in the SEC (let alone Georgia's rival) struggle and lose to a Group of Five team.
Georgia's next game is a road date with Tennessee next Saturday where UGA fans will learn how great this team can be.
