One of the most important targets for Georgia remaining in the 2026 recruiting class is five-star tight end Kaiden Prothro. Georgia has always prioritized Prothro this cycle, but his recruitment became even more important after the No. 1 tight end in the country, Mark Bowman, chose USC over the Bulldogs earlier this summer.
Prothro took his official visit to Georgia on May 30 and has also visited Alabama and Auburn since then, and even after these visits Georgia remained the favorite to win this recruitment. However, a visit to Florida last week presented another hurdle for Georgia to overcome, and according to Rivals Recruiting Director Adam Gorney, the Gators did not do enough to surpass Georgia.
"The standout four-star tight end from Bowdon, Ga., was at Florida over the weekend as the Gators remain one of the four front-runners - and they could have moved up after his visit to Gainesville - but the word is still that Georgia is No. 1 on his list and Auburn is second in the running," Gorney shared via uga.rivals.com.
Florida falls short for 5-star Kaiden Prothro after recent visit
According to Gorney, Florida's visit was not good enough for the Gators to pass Georgia as Prothro's No. 1 team. In fact, they didn't even do enough to move to his No. 2 slot which is held by Auburn.
So while the competition for Prothro is still fierce, it doesn't appear Florida is a team Georgia will have to worry about.
Prothro has one final official visit with Texas that will take place this weekend. It's unclear how good of a chance Texas has in this recruitment, but at the end of the day it may not matter. Georgia is the clear No. 1 team in Prothro's recruitment right now, and it might be too late for any team to change that.
