Georgia and Florida are a few days out from their annual rivalry matchup, but at this point the Gators have no clue who they’ll be playing at quarterback. They have two capable QBs in Aaron Philo and Tramell Jones Jr, but they both are reportedly practicing injured so far this week.

Since they are practicing it’s safe to assume one will be able to play, but since they’re both injured this could be seen as an advantage for Georgia. The unknown about who will actually end up playing is why this may benefit Florida more than Georgia though.

Florida’s unknown at QB could benefit them vs Georgia

It isn’t too often that one of Georgia’s opponents has two quarterbacks who are capable of beating them, but that’s what Florida has heading into this game. Philo is their preferred starter who has started six of their seven games this season which includes their upset win over Ole Miss. Jones on the other hand has made one start this year when Philo was out with an injury and that occurred in their last game at Texas two weeks ago which they won.

Those are two monster wins that both quarterbacks should be proud of, but for Georgia this makes their life far more difficult now. At this point they have no clue who they should be preparing to face, and since they are both strong players they can’t just prep for Florida’s true starter and hope for the best. Georgia has to get ready to face both players because they both could realistically start, and there’s even a chance they could see both during the game as well.

Florida more than likely won’t announce a starter until their offense takes the field for the first time, but maybe Georgia will get lucky and they’ll announce a starter before Saturday.

Georgia may be better off facing Aaron Philo

It may be a bit weird to say this, but Georgia might be better off facing Philo this weekend even though he is Florida’s preferred starter. That’s because so far this season he is a far less capable runner than Jones.

This year Philo is only averaging 2.4 yards per carry while Jones is averaging 4.4 yards per carry. That two yard difference is massive and something Georgia’s defense might want no part of.

Georgia’s defense struggled their last time out against Auburn quarterback Byrum Brown because of how great he was a runner. He ran the ball a whopping 26 times for 115 yards against UGA, and it was clear they didn’t have an answer for him. Florida could use Jones in a similar manner, but Philo may not be capable of that.

Regardless of what Florida does the Bulldogs are expected to win this game. They are favored by over double digits, and regardless of who starts for Florida they are expected to win.
