Potentially the biggest game in all of college football this season will be taking place in Athens when Georgia football hosts the Alabama Crimson Tide during their week five showdown on Sep. 27.
No one should need to be told how big this game is as it pits the best two programs in the SEC, and arguably the country, against each other. This game will have massive SEC Championship and College Football Playoff implications on it, but that apparently isn't enough for a former Alabama player turned college football analyst.
In fact, Roman Harper doesn't think this is as big of a game as anyone is making it out to be.
"It will be a big game, it's two great programs with a lot of championship-caliber players," Harper shared via si.com. "But if you lose this game, it's going to be 'Well, Alabama, you just lost to Georgia,' or 'Georgia, you just lost to Alabama.' It's forgivable. It might even be your best loss on the schedule."
Former Alabama DB thinks it's okay to lose to Georgia
To be fair to Harper, there is some truth to what he is saying. Just last season Georgia lost to Alabama and still went on to win the SEC and make it into the College Football Playoff. So the loser of this game this year could still accomplish that same feat just like Georgia did last year.
But none of that really matters. Isn't the goal of competitive sports to win every single game? Especially when it comes to football in the SEC, the only thing that matters is winning. So the fact that a former Alabama player, who was a captain on the New Orleans Saints when they won the Super Bowl, is acting like losing is okay is a very shocking thing to hear.
Thankfully everyone at Georgia knows how big of a game this is, so there won't be any Bulldog going into this game that is okay with losing like Harper.
