The Georgia Bulldogs can thank their back-to-back National Championships to several different factors. One of the best defenses in college football history, Kirby Smart and Stetson Bennett stand out more than most. However, one can't forget to name Todd Monken as well.
Introduced as the new Georgia offensive coordinator in 2020, Monken led the Bulldogs offense to new heights. In 2023, Monken left Georgia for an opening as the offensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens. However, recent reports have speculated that Monken could be on his way back to college football. This time, as a head coach.
Todd Monken named candidate for Oklahoma State head coach opening
According to an article from USA Today, Monken was listed as a possible candidate to fill the vacant head coach position at Oklahoma State. The article stated that Monken and his family have "enjoyed their time in Oklahoma. And with his son, Travis, embarking on his coaching career as an offensive analyst at Purdue, the two could work together in Stillwater."
Obviously this could be a dream scenario for Monken that would be near impossible to turn down. To lead a D1 college football team playing in a weak BIG 12 conference would definitely be a job upgrade with a healthy pay bump. Not only that, but he could potentially work with his son and have him in an elevated offensive role.
The Oklahoma State job is not the most glamorous one available right now. It would not be enough to sway big name candidate like Lane Kiffin or Jon Sumrall. However, it could be just enough to land a guy like Monken.
That is not a downgrade either. Monken has taken his success in college and transitioned it well to the NFL, creating one of the best offenses in the leagye with the Ravens. Oklahoma State has struggled to score offensively, and Monken could be the answer to completely turn their program around.
