The first NFL Playoff game of the season is in the books as the Houston Texans took down the Los Angeles Chargers 32-12 on Saturday night. While a 20-point win seems like a dominant victory, this game was extremely tight for the entire first half. In fact, after a couple field goals from the Chargers, they actually led 6-0 midway through the second quarter.
But then the Texans finally got a big play on defense that gave their team a spark they so desperately needed. And that spark came in the form of an interception from a former Georgia football star.
Kamari Lassiter shines in Texans victory
Former standout Georgia football defensive back Kamari Lassiter had one of the biggest plays of this game. About three minutes into the second quarter with the Texans needing to find some way to get some momentum, Lassiter intercepted Justin Herbert one play after the Chargers just forced an interception of their own.
This play ended up being the play that got the Texans going as even though Houston did not score on the drive after this interception, they did the next time they got the ball to take a 7-6 lead. And after taking this lead, the Texans never looked back as they dominated the Chargers the rest of the game.
While this play was easily the best from Lassiter in this game, he was all over the field all night long and finished this game with two tackles and two passes defended to go along with his interception in the first half. Lassiter is one of the biggest reasons why the Chargers didn't take a larger lead early in the game while the Texans offense was trying to get going.
The Texans move on to the divisional round of the playoffs which will take place next weekend. Houston does not know who they will play yet, but if Lassiter and the Texans defense continues to play this well then they will have a good shot at beating anyone.
