The SEC has been a wild rollercoaster since the end of the regular season as multiple programs have already hired new head coaches. This includes Georgia's hated rival Florida who hired former Tulane head coach Jon Sumrall as their new head coach.

Sumrall has already gone to work hiring his staff, and he quickly hired Buster Faulkner as his Offensive Coordinator. Faulkner spent the last few seasons as Georgia Tech's Offensive Coordinator, so he is going from one Georgia rival to another which is quite a funny coincidence.

But Georgia fans likely know this name in a different way because he did two stints as an assistant coach at Georgia earlier in his career.

Former Georgia coach joins Florida's staff

Faulkner was hired as a Graduate Assistant at Georgia in 2006 which was the second position he ever held in his coaching career. He only spent the one season in Athens before he made many other stops as he worked his way up the ranks to more important roles on a coaching staff. And 14 years later Kirby Smart brought him back to Georgia as QB and Quality Control coach.

Faulkner held this title from 2020-2022, so he was a key member of Georgia's National Championship run just a few years ago. He then decided to move on from Georgia again to become an Offensive Coordinator for the first time of his career at Georgia Tech in 2023. This is where he has been for the last three seasons before accepting the same job at Florida on Thursday.

It likely is just a matter of time until Faulkner becomes a head coach because he has been very successful at almost every stop he has made in his career. And the vast success he found at Georgia a few years ago will do wonders for his resume as he looks to earn a head coaching job in the coming years.

So while he will always be a welcomed person at Georgia after helping win a national title at UGA, he is now working for yet another Georgia rival. However, UGA fans have no reason to not want him to succeed and continue to grow in his career, the hope though is that this doesn't come at the expense of Georgia.
