The offseason circus came early this season in college football as countless coaches have either been fired or decided to pack their bags and head to a new job. The SEC has been hit harder than anyone else as close to half of the programs will have a new head coach next season.

The college ranks however aren't the only level seeing a lot of turnover as the local high school football scene in Georgia is seeing some turnover as well. And it just so happens that a former Georgia quarterback is getting his first head coaching opportunity just 47 miles from Athens.

Quincy Carter named new high school football coach

Quincy Carter was a quarterback for Georgia from 1998-2000. During his time in Athens he threw for over 6,400 yards and helped lead Georgia to two eight win seasons and a nine win season in 1998. He also helped Georgia win all three bowl games during his three years at UGA as well. In 1998 he was named the SEC Freshman of the Year and in 1999 he made the All-SEC Second Team.

Carter went on to be drafted with the 53rd overall pick in the 2001 NFL Draft. He spent four years in the league before moving on to lower levels of professional football before retiring in 2009.

Carter has now decided that he wants to coach football, and his first gig will be at Heritage High School in Conyers, GA which is about 50 miles from Athens.

It is always fun to follow former Bulldogs careers even after their playing careers are done, and in the case of Carter it will be even more exciting to see where his coaching career takes him. It's unclear how far up the coaching ladder he wants to climb, but either way he will have a lot of Georgia fans cheering him on.
