We can only hope that Pearce Spurlin's football career finishes as strongly as what it could have been coming in. He was the former No. 2 overall tight end prospect in the 2023 recruiting class. After having to deal with a myriad of health issues, Spurlin has decided to hit the portal and leave Georgia for one of Mike Bobo's former stomping grounds. He is off to Colorado State to go play for Jim Mora!

On3's Hayes Fawcett was all over the commitment, citing Spurlin has two years left to play for CSU.

Historically, Colorado State has been one of those programs that has kind of been bubbling beneath the surface with some level of intrigue. Only one Power Four school resides in-state, and that is arch rival Colorado. They are conference foes with Air Force, but that is a service academy. This is a job that Bobo took a decade ago after having been Georgia's offensive coordinator the first time around.

Mora did incredible things most recently at a far more difficult job in UConn, so there is real optimism.

Pearce Spurlin leaves Georgia to start anew with Colorado State in portal

Beginning next fall, Colorado State will no longer compete in the Mountain West. The Rams will be joining the new Pac-12 with Boise State, Fresno State, San Diego State, Texas State, Utah State, and Gonzaga in basketball, to revamp a dying league that has been held together by Oregon State and Washington State. This is a huge stage that programs like Colorado State were always hoping for.

In short, Colorado State is one of those programs where there seems to be a sleeping giant component to them on the football field. The Rams typically get players drafted into the NFL annually, oftentimes at skill positions. With what Spurlin was coming out of high school, he could have a field day in this new football league, one that is trying to reinvent itself. This all could fit like hand in glove.

While there was some hope that Spurlin could return to the football field at Georgia, that was never really in the cards. Health issues and getting buried on the depth chart at Tight End U proved problematic. The good news for him is he has something to prove to himself. Mora offers the same thing as the incoming Rams head coach. As a whole, Colorado State gives off that overall vibe, too.

This may not be the biggest of commitments, but it is one that Dawg Nation is rooting for to go well.
