Georgia is off and running the Transfer Portal season as they look to strengthen their team heading into next year. Georgia has already earned one commitment out of the portal, but there are a lot of positions that they need to improve before next season.

One of those areas Kirby Smart is showing he wants to add some talent is on the defensive line. He has identified a few transfers he is interested in, but former Tennessee Volunteer Caleb Herring is the one player showing the most interest in Georgia.

Former No. 1 recruit betrays Tennessee, plans upcoming visit to Georgia

Herring is a former four-star recruit who was the No. 1 overall recruit from the state of Tennessee in the 2023 recruiting class. He decided to stay home and play for the Volunteers where he has now spent three seasons, but with one year of eligibility remaining he is looking to find a new school.

A date for a visit is not confirmed with Herring yet, but it has been reported that he will visit Georgia at some point this offseason. He will also visit Mississippi State and Miami this offseason as well.

Herring just wrapped up his best season at Tennessee as he totaled 14 tackles and a whopping four sacks. Georgia struggled at times to take down the quarterback, so adding someone like Herring who has proven he can do it in the SEC would be a big boost for Georgia next year.

But the icing on the cake in this recruitment would be the fact that Herring is from Tennessee and played for Tennessee. It can be extremely difficult to steal players who decided to stay home and play for their in-state school, but Georgia has a chance to do that to a team in Tennessee that they have dominated over the past decade.
