In the historic 2021 Georgia Bulldogs championship run, the Bulldogs had plenty of receivers to credit for their success. Brock Bowers, Adonai Mitchell and Jermaine Burton were among the list of names to bring the Bulldogs their first National Championship in over 40 years. However, arguably one of the best players to help bring them success was George Pickens.
Although the former Bulldog was traded from the Pittsburgh Steelers to the Dallas Cowboys in May, Pickens has taken his new opportunity and run with it. Not only that, he helped lead the Cowboys to an improbable come-from-behind victory over division rival Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.
Pickens shines in Cowboys' dramatic victory
After falling behind 21-0 against the Eagles early in the second quarter, the Cowboys stormed back and outscored Philadelphia 24-0 to win the game. A catalyst for this dramatic comeback was Pickens himself, catching nine passes for 146 yards and a touchdown.

This is not the first time Pickens has been clutch for Dallas this season. After being traded to Dallas and expected to be their wide receiver No. 2 or even a slot receiver, Pickens leads the Cowboys with 908 receiving yards and seven touchdowns already this season. Pickens has comfortably overtaken CeeDee Lamb for the No. 1 receiver on the Cowboys, something that very few football fans could have anticipated this season.
However, Georgia fans knew exactly what Pickens was capable of from day one.
Pickens career at Georgia
It is hard to start as a true freshman for a team led by Kirby Smart. However, Pickens started from day one at Georgia. Not only that, he led the Bulldogs in receiving yards as a true freshman in 2019. Pickens also had a historic game in the Sugar Bowl his freshman season, reeling in 12 catches for 175 yards and one touchdown. That performance was enough to win him MVP of the game.
Despite a shortened season due to COVID-19 and frequent changes in quarterback, Pickens still had over 500 receiving yards his sophomore season. His junior season at Georgia was also cut short after an ACL injury. Despite the injury, he made an improbable comeback to the field by the National Championship game where he made key plays to help Georgia win the game, including an incredible diving grab on a huge passing play.
Pickens is one of the best jump-ball receivers in Georgia history. He was undoubtedly the best the Bulldogs had seen since AJ Green, and Georgia has yet to see anyone like him since. He is a generational talent, and the Dallas Cowboys are lucky to have him. Some fans might be surprised by the heroic efforts Pickens can provide to a team. However, Georgia fans weren't shocked in the slightest.
