Every recruiting cycle Georgia football will earn a commitment from a few five-stars. So far in the 2026 class they have one commitment from a five-star player in quarterback Jared Curtis. It's likely just be a matter of time until Georgia adds to that total, but at this point it's unclear who that next five-star commit could be.
One candidate who could become Georgia's next five-star commit is Derrek Cooper. According to the 247Sports composite rankings, he is the No. 30 overall player in the country as well as the No. 2 ATH.
Georgia has a visit quickly approaching with Cooper who is schedule to visit Athens June 13, but Cooper teased an announcement Thursday night that could be changing his recruitment.
Commitment date coming soon 👀

5-star Derrek Cooper is close to committing
Cooper unfortunately did not share when his commitment date will be, but he did share in the above post that this announcement will be coming soon. So there likely is no need to worry that Georgia hasn't had their visit with him yet as his commitment date will likely be after he takes all of his official visits this month.
Cooper has already officially visited Miami (FL), and he will also take visits to Alabama, Florida State and Ohio State throughout the month as well. So the expectation is for him to announce his commitment soon after his final visit.
Unfortunately for Georgia, Miami appears to be the team to beat as they do have a crystal ball prediction in their favor on 247Sports. On3 also has Miami in the lead as well, with Georgia not far behind.
This obviously can change in a hurry as Cooper still has a few visits to take before he is expected to commit, but Georgia insider Trent Smallwood seems to be in a good mood after seeing this post on Thursday.

Time will tell if Georgia ends up winning this recruitment or not, but it's looking like they are still a serious contender at this point.
