Georgia football has had one of the best recruiting stretches in the history of college football over the past month. The hope now is that this momentum will continue into July when many of their remaining top targets plan to announce their commitment.

One of those recruits is five-star running back Derrek Cooper, who was originally scheduled to announce his commitment on July 12. That however has now changed as Cooper shared the below post on social media Monday afternoon stating he no longer will be committing on that day.

5-star RB makes drastic change to his recruitment

According to the 247Sports composite rankings, Cooper is the No. 30 overall player in the country. He also is the No. 2 player at his position in the 2026 recruiting class and the No. 2 player from the state of Florida.

After a busy month of official visits in June, Cooper announced his six finalists. Those schools are Georgia, Miami (FL), Alabama, Texas, Florida State and Ohio State, but it was Georgia who was officially predicted to win Cooper's recruitment. This latest update however creates some doubt as to if that is still the case.

Cooper has not shared when he plans to announce his commitment, so Georgia fans no longer have an announcement to look forward to from Cooper. There is a chance Cooper moves his commitment up which would be a great sign for Kirby Smart and Georgia, but if he decides to delay his commitment instead then UGA could be in serious trouble.

Regardless of what people might think Cooper is doing, Georgia is still the team to beat. So UGA fans should continue to feel confident in this recruitment until a recruiting expert or Cooper himself gives them a reason to doubt Georgia's chances in this recruitment.
