Georgia basketball is quickly becoming a program that cannot be ignored in Athens. Typically the men's basketball team is a bit of an afterthought, especially compared to the football team, but that is no longer the case.

Georgia is coming off last year where they made the NCAA Tournament for the first time in a decade. The Bulldogs now are building off that momentum as they are 9-1 to start this season and just entered the AP Poll's top 25 at No. 25 this week.

This is the most momentum the program has had in a very long time, and the Bulldogs are capitilizing on that momentum by adding an exciting Blue Blood program to their schedule in what will be ahighly anticipated series.

Georgia basketball adds massive non-conference opponent to future schedules

Georgia announced on Tuesday that they have a scheduled a home-and-home series with the North Carolina Tar Heels. This series will begin next season where Georgia will travel to North Carolina with the Tar Heels making a return trip to Athens in 2028.

College basketball programs do not get much better than North Carolina. The Tar Heels have made the Final Four a whopping 21 times while also winning six National Championships. They also are not going anywhere as a program as they are regularly sitting near the top of the recruiting rankings every year. So it is safe to say that Georgia will have their hands full in 2026 and 2028 when these matchups take place.

The good news is that Georgia is showing that they are more than capable of winning these type of games. Just last season Georgia beat Florida towards the end of the regular season before the Gators went on to win the national title.

So while North Carolina will likely be the favorite in both of these games, Georgia will have a great chance to win both matchups and prove to the country that they are much better than they have been in years past.
