The coaching carousel has already begun in college football and the regular season hasn't even finished. Legendary North Carolina head coach Mack Brown was fired earlier this week, and whenever a power four position opens up it will always send shockwaves throughout the college football world.

This is always something Georgia football fans needs to be conscious about because being one of the top programs in the country means that other schools will want to make UGA's assistants their next head coach. And unfortunately for Georgia, that appears to be happening with North Carolina.

Glenn Schumann named a leading candidate for UNC opening

ESPN's Pete Thamel reported that Georgia Defensive Coordinator Glenn Schumann is one name that North Carolina football is very high on for their head coach opening.

Schumann has been a very important piece on Georgia's coaching staff since being hired. He began as the Inside Lienebackers coach for three seasons before being name the Co-Defensive Coordinator as well in 2019. From there he became the Defensive Coordinator in 2022, which is the position he holds today.

It's no surprise seeing other programs showing interest in Schumann considering all of the success he has had with Georgia during his tenure. Georgia always has one of the best defenses in the country, and Schumann is one of the biggest reasons for that.

It is unlikely that any noise will come from Schumann's end regarding this news as Georgia still has a lot to play for this season. And it's a foregone conclusion that he won't leave the team until after Georgia either wins a National Championship or loses during postseason play.

But one thing's for sure, Schumann deserves this job and is a great candidate. All Georgia fans likely want Schumann to stay in Athens, but at the same time we know that won't be the case forever. That's what comes with being a top program in the country, and this is something that could definitely impact Georgia once the offseason begins.
