Contrary to Silas Demary Jr.'s surprising announcement last week, Georgia basketball received more relatively expected news yesterday afternoon when two more members of its 2024-2025 team announced that they will be departing Georgia and entering their names into the transfer portal.

Junior forward RJ Godfrey and sophomore guard De'Shayne Montgomery announced on Monday that they would be leaving Georgia, as reported by On3.

RJ Godfrey

Standing at 6-8, Godfrey is the son of Randall Godfrey who played linebacker for Georgia who averaged 6.4 points and 3.8 rebounds per game, with a 53.2 field goal percentage last season.

Godfrey arrived at Georgia after transferring from Clemson where he averaged 6.1 points per game in a backup role for a Tigers team that made the NCAA Tournament in 2024. With the opportunity for more playing time and the chance to play for a school he grew up following because of parental ties, Godfrey made the move to Georgia prior to the 2024-2025 season.

Godfrey's best game as a Bulldog would be an outstanding 21 point, 12 rebound showing against North Florida. He also did not miss a single game this past season. Godfrey will have one more year of eligibility remaining.

De'Shayne Montgomery

6-5 sophomore guard Montgomery transferred to Georgia prior to the 2024 season as well as a package deal from Mount St. Mary with senior guard Dakota Leffew. Montgomery's Georgia career got off to a later start than anticipated as he was forced to miss the first nine games of the regular season due to an eligibility issue as he did not have enough transferrable credits to play in the first semester.

Montgomery made his debut on December 19th, against the University of Buffalo and immediately showed flashes of what made him the 2023 MAAC Rookie of the Year, with a 16 point, three steals performance. He would follow up that effort in Georgia's very next game with a 22 point outburst against Charleston Southern, but as the season wore on Montgomery would see a drastic reduction in his playing minutes. Ultimately, those first two games would serve as the highlight of Montgomery's tenure at Georgia

In his one season with Georgia, Montgomery averaged 6.5 points and 2.1 rebounds per game, with a 40.9 field goal percentage for the season. Montgomery will have two more years of eligibility.
