Georgia Bulldogs express a lot of confidence in Gunner Stockton
Georgia football fans were extremely nervous at the start of the second half of the SEC Championship game when they saw that Carson Beck was not able to finish the game. However, backup QB Gunner Stockton came in and played very well en route to Georgia's 22-19 overtime win against Texas.
Even after this solid performance from Stockton however, everyone was still hoping that Beck's injury was not serious so he could return before Georgia's first College Football Playoff game. That wish unfortunately will not be coming true as Beck has suffered a serious injury to his right elbow.
With Stockton officially taking over under center for Georgia's next game, fans are unsure if he will be able to lead Georgia to victory. However, Stockton's teammates do not sound concerned at all.
Georgia Bulldogs have a lot of confidence in Gunner Stockton
“I think Gunner did a great job stepping up like he had to," Tate Ratledge said via dawgnation.com. "Him coming in the game, I think it made everybody realize this is a new juice we got to come out in the second half with. I think everybody did a great job with that.”
“Man, just how confident he was,” Trevor Etienne shared. “You know, just shows the preparation. It goes to show, like, when he’s taking reps, mental reps, you know, he’s locked in, he’s paying attention, and that speaks volumes about him because he’s not QB1, he could be down, but instead he takes advantage of the opportunities that he gets. And I’m just glad that he was able to come out and help us get the win tonight.”
Ratledge and Etienne are both leaders on this Georgia team, so if they have a lot of confidence in Stockton then the rest of the team likely will as well. This confidence in Stockton will also grow exponentially as UGA has over three weeks to get him and the rest of the team ready before the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 1.
So hopefully that will be plenty of time to get Stockton caught up to speed and put Georgia in the best position possibile to win the Sugar Bowl and advance to the College Football Playoff semifinals.
