The Georgia Bulldogs have secured their latest commitment in the transfer portal. Coming over from Oklahoma is defensive back Gentry Williams. He is the seventh incoming player to the Georgia program in this offseason cycle. He was a four-star in the 2022 recruiting cycle and will have one year of eligibility to use at Georgia. Clearly, the Bulldogs want to get more experienced on the back-end...
Williams had 48 tackles, seven pass breakups, and four interceptions during his run with the Sooners.

The 5’11” DB from Tulsa, OK recorded 48 total tackles, 7 pass deflections, and 4 interceptions in his time at Oklahoma. Williams was a 4-star prospect in the 2022 class and will come… pic.twitter.com/iPHmanA7BL
Of the seven players Georgia has gotten commitments from out of the portal so far, five play on the defensive side of the ball, and four have cut their teeth in the defensive backfield. Williams joins the likes of Ja'Marley Riddle, Khalil Barnes, and Braylon Conley in that regard. As Georgia gets even more seasoned on defense, that could take some pressure off the side of the football that let them down...
The other key component here is Oklahoma is losing a key contributor in the back-end in Williams.
Georgia gains even more experience in the portal with Gentry Williams
Coming out of high school, the Tulsa native was the No. 2 player in-state, the No. 16 cornerback in the country, and the No. 119 overall recruit in the 2022 recruiting class. As a transfer, he is only the No. 30 cornerback and the No. 371 overall prospect in this offseason, per 247Sports. To be frank, to get a player from Tulsa to leave Oklahoma and Brent Venables this soon after a playoff run speaks volumes.
Of the five SEC teams that made the College Football Playoff this past season, Georgia is arguably the surest to make it back. Conversely, it remains to be seen what becomes of Alabama, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, and Texas A&M next season... Oklahoma should have a fair chance to make it back, but we all know how unforgiving this league is. The fact Texas is poised to bounce back makes it challenging.
In the end, Georgia is looking for impactful players to supplement the back-end of its defense. Barnes and Williams are every bit upperclassmen. While Barnes and Riddle hail from Georgia originally, it just goes to show that the right fit is everything. Again, to get a player with one year left who has spent his entire college career at Oklahoma, and the fact that he is from there, is certainly an eye-opener here.
With only a few days left before the transfer portal closes, look for Georgia to be even more active.
