Friday was quite the day for Georgia football. From a commit announcing their final decision to a new crystal ball prediction, there was news all over the place surrounding the program. There was even an anonymous coach slamming Georgia that said some pretty idiotic things as well.
So let’s dive right in, because there is a lot of interesting news to cover from Friday.
4-star IOL Jared Smith announces commitment
Jared Smith is a four-star offensive lineman from Georgia. Smith is someone UGA appeared to be pursuing, and with his commitment date set for May 23 hopes were high that Georgia could earn another commitment.
Unfortunately for Georgia, Smith committed to Rutgers even though On3 favored the Bulldogs in this recruitment.
Smith is the No. 313 player in the country, so this loss isn’t the end of the world. But it is tough to lose an in-star recruit to a program like Rutgers, who is multiple steps below Georgia as a program.
3-star WR predicted to Georgia
Georgia has not yet earned a commitment in the 2027 recruiting class, but considering it’s May of 2025 that isn’t a concern at all. However, it isn’t uncommon to land a couple recruits this early in the class, and it appears Georgia is on their way to accomplishing just that.
Gavin Honore is a three-star wide receiver from California who was just predicted to commit to Georgia by 247Sports. According to the composite rankings on 247Sports, he is the No. 422 overall player in the country and the No. 54 wide receiver.
There is no set commitment timeline for Honore yet, but he very well could be Georgia’s first commit in the 2027 class.
College football coach makes idiotic comment about Georgia
An anonymous college football coach had quite a few things to say about Georgia on Friday. This coach said a wide range of negative things about Georgia including a decrease in play both on the line of scrimmage and at quarterback from Georgia this season.
But the most shocking comment of all was said about Georgia’s linebacker room.
“Defensively, it’s still an elite group, but they’re thin at linebacker.”
Georgia fans were quick to point out how false this statement is because in reality, Georgia’s linebacker room is one of the deepest rooms in the country. Graham Coffey with Dawgs Central had the best response as he shared a simple post highlighting four Georgia linebackers currently on the team that were all top 50 recruits.
These four players are five-stars Justin Williams, Chris Cole, Raylen Wilson and four-star C.J. Allen. Georgia also has incoming five-star true freshman Zayden Walker in their linebacker room now as well.
So Georgia in fact is not thin at linebacker, this actually is arguable their deepest position on the entire team.
