Monday was quite the day for news impacting Georgia and their athletic programs. The Bulldogs baseball team learned their fate in the NCAA Tournament while the football team found out they will be hosting a massive visitor this weekend. On top of that, College Football Playoff discussions are taking center stage as change once again appears to be on the horizon.

But let's begin with the Georgia baseball team, because they deserve their flowers as they enter NCAA Tournament play.

Georgia baseball earns coveted NCAA Tournament seed

Georgia baseball's run in the NCAA Tournament is set to begin later this week, and Monday the Bulldogs learned their fate in the tournament. The Bulldogs already knew they would be a top 16 seed in the NCAA Tournament, but Monday they learned they received a coveted top eight seed.

Georgia earned the No. 7 seed in the tournament, meaning they will host Regionals this weekend and the Super Regionals, if they advance. The three other teams included in Georgia's region are Duke, Oklahoma State and Binghamton.

Georgia's first game the NCAA Tournament will begin at noon EST on Friday, May 30 on the SEC Network against Binghamton.

5-star WR Cederian Morgan will visit Georgia this weekend

Now that Georgia football has their star quarterback in the 2026 recruiting class in Jared Curtis, they need to start adding some weapons around him. One of those weapons UGA is attempting to add is five-star wide receiver Cederian Morgan.

Morgan is the No. 11 overall player in the country, according to the 247Sports composite rankings. He also is the No. 2 wide receiver in the 2026 recruiting class and the No. 1 player from his home state of Alabama.

Morgan will reportedly be taking an official visit to Georgia this weekend, which is great news since Auburn and Alabama appear to be the two leaders in his recruitment right now. So this visit has to go perfect, because if it doesn't then UGA likely will stand no chance in this recruitment.

SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey sounds off on College Football Playoff

This season is the final year of the contract for the 12-team College Football Playoff. In all likelihood, the playoff will expand to 16 teams in the 2026 season, but how those teams are determined is still completely up in the air.

The model that is the most likely to go into effect will give both the SEC and Big Ten four automatic bids each. Many college football fans are not happy at the thought of that model, but SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey seemed to bite his tongue when asked about it as according to dawgnation.com, Sankey said the SEC is "not committed at this point."

On paper this format seems to favor the SEC because four teams is quite a lot for the SEC to have in the playoff, but in reality it could hurt the conference. Had the 16 highest ranked teams made the playoff last season, the SEC would have ended with more than four qualifying teams, so only having four automatic spots may not be the best idea for the conference.

Sankey continued to discuss the format negotiations, and his last statement is potentially the most troubling.

“We are trying to find a format to determine, whatever number it is, the best teams in college football,” Sankey shared. “We have used a political process to come to a decision inside a room … we should be using football to make football decisions.”

Hearing the word "political" thrown around when talking about a new playoff format is a bit concerning. It's also scary hearing Sankey suggest the powers at be aren't using football to make this decision.

At the end of the day, most fans probably don't care all that much with what the playoff looks like as long as it is fair and doesn't tarnish the regular season any more than it already has.
